Heart Healthy Valentines Day Treats

On top of being the month of love, February is also American Heart Month—so what better way to show your self and loved ones some love than by subbing your sugar filled goodies, for these healthier desserts?

.) Fruit on a stick. Have these goodies laying out to show your love on valentines day.

.) Artistic Apples. Drizzle some peanut butter on the apples to make it into a dessert.

.) Dark chocolate-drizzled rice cakes: Take mini chocolate rice cakes and drizzle peanut butter over them, or take regular mini rice cakes and drizzle dark chocolate over them.

.) Yogurt Parfaits. Add strawberries and raspberries to make this a valentines day themed parfait!

.) Fruit smoothies: Make a strawberry banana smoothie (or any smoothie that will turn out red/pinkish) and serve out of decorated bottles to make it festive.

.) Heart shaped eggs & toast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so why not wake up your valentine with some heart healthy breakfast in bed? You can also use a cookie cutter to shape your eggs.

.) Heart Shaped Hard Boiled Egg. You can also do stars by pressing in on the egg in different areas while the egg is warm!

.) Greek Yogurt Banana split. Yum! Skip the sugar filled ice cream, and cut a banana in half (long ways) and top with some Greek yogurt (plain, or vanilla… but watch the sugar content in the yogurt!) and cut a few strawberries in the shape of a heart to place on top.

.) Raspberries & Chocolate Chips. Add some white chocolate chips to the center for a tasty treat. Cut out some of the sugar and sub dark chocolate chips!

.) Fat Free & Sugar Free Jello Pops. These are a great alternative to sugar filled Popsicle’s, and super easy to make! Click on the photo for the recipe and directions.

.) Raw Cocoa Truffles. Raw cocoa is better for you than any other chocolate. Make a batch of these and put them in a cute mini cupcake wrapper for decoration. Click on the photo for directions and the recipe.

.) Raw cocoa hearts. These are a perfect alternative for the typical sugar filled chocolates. Put them in your own heart shaped box, or container, and give them to your valentine!

.) Strawberries Drizzled with Peanut Butter. There is nothing better than strawberries and peanut butter, right? Drizzle some melted peanut butter onto strawberries, pop them in the refrigerator and have a great tasting healthy dessert! (tip: you can also use strawberries in place of jelly on a PB&J!)

.) Strawberries & Whip Cream. Instead of indulging on cookies and baked goods, take some strawberries and a little bit of whipped cream and enjoy this snack with your valentine.

.) Organic heart shaped pancakes with heart shaped strawberries. Use a cookie cutter to make the heart shaped pancakes until they are ready on one side, then flip them and wash the cookie cutter for the next pancake. Quick tip: spray the cookie cutter with non-stick spray.
