Coconut Oil: The New Must Have

Coconut oil is an edible oil, extracted from matured coconuts. Coconut oil is actually a heart-healthy food that can keep your body running smoother in a few different ways. You can use coconut oil in food, medicine, beauty products, household products, and much more. According to research, studies have show that intake of coconut oil can help our bodies build resistance to both viruses and bacteria that can cause illness. Coconut oil can also positively affect our hormones for thyroid and blood-sugar control. People who take coconut oil also tend to have improvements in how they handle blood sugar since coconut can help improve insulin use within the body. Coconut oil can boost thyroid function helping to increase metabolism, energy and endurance. It increases digestion and helps to absorb fat-soluble vitamins. Not only is coconut good to ingest, but also it is good to use on the outside of your body and around your home.

Take a few of these Uses for coconut oil and put them to use yourself!

In your food:

1.)   Put coconut oil in your coffee or tea in the mornings. The trick is to blend the mixture enough for the oil to emulsify, which creates a creamy and rich consistency and not an oily consistency.

2.)   In smoothies. It is so easy to hide the taste of coconut oil in your smoothies and/or protein shakes. Melt the coconut oil until it is just barely melted and add slowly as the smoothie is already being blended.

3.)   Use in a stir-fry. high smoke point and concentration of stable saturated fats makes it a good choice for stir fry’s and cooking. We often use coconut oil as the base oil to coat the pan when cooking eggs, stir fry’s and other pan-cooked dishes.

4.)   Replace any butter or margarine in baking recipes, cooking recipes, or even on your toast! When making anything on the stove, use coconut oil instead of any type of oil.

5.)   Straight out of the jar. Many people don’t have time in their daily lives for meal preparation or prefer to eat out, but don’t let that discourage you. You can consume coconut oil without adding it to another food. Dig in with a spoon as you would with a jar of peanut butter and enjoy. Lack of time is no excuse for missing out on this food’s antioxidant, disease-fighting and metabolic-enhancing benefits.
