This week, we invited fellow blogger Rachael Harris of Passing Daisies to give us some tips on getting a healthy start to 2015 – and she threw in a super-easy recipe for no-bake protein bites because she’s just sweet like that!
Happy 2015, ladies! It’s a new year, and that means it is the perfect time to start some new traditions towards becoming a STRONG and SEXY you.
But I am learning that small life changes can add up to HUGE health benefits.
Here are a few helpful tips to make the transition to a clean & healthy lifestyle more manageable.
Drink at plenty of water every day.
Water is what allows your body to function, and sometimes we mistake dehydration for hunger. When we drink a sufficient amount of water, we allow our body to determine when it is actually hungry, which can help prevent over-eating.
Work out at the best time for your schedule.
For me, this means a lot of early mornings, but it’s worth it! Set that alarm for 30 minutes earlier and go for a quick walk or run – something to wake you up and get your blood flowing. I call this my morning “booty call.” Get that booty moving! Then, later in the evening, you can add some simple toning moves to sculpt those sexy abs or arms.
Prep food for the week ahead of time.
This is super important! When you have healthy food that is ready to go when you need, you are less likely to reach for fast food or unhealthy snacks. Make big batches of hearty food (like quinoa, soups, and salads) that will keep your energy high.
It’s also important to have a plan for when you have a sweet tooth, which happens to me on a daily basis! I prefer to opt for a healthy sweet treat instead of a giant cookie.
Below is a recipe for No-Bake Protein Bites – a delicious and satisfying alternative to candy or cookies. They take no more than 10 minutes to make. Try them and let me know in the comments below what you think!
Happy New Year!
Rachael Harris is a 23 year old lover of all things food & fitness from Cincinnati, OH. She spends too much money at Target, passionately enjoys dark chocolate and coffee (especially when it’s from a local coffee shop), and has been blogging at Passing Daisies for the past four years.
- 1 cup quick cook oatmeal
- ½ cup peanut butter
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 scoop protein powder of choice
- ½ cup ground flaxseed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Handful of chocolate chips or carob chips (optional)
Mix everything together in a bowl & then roll dough into small balls. You can make them as large or small as you like – mine were probably a tablespoon worth of dough (or a little less). I store mine in the fridge!
I’m having a special giveaway for Valentine’s Day this year over on my blog – you could win 20 packages of the protein powder I use for this recipe! Get more info and enter to win here.
